Applicant Eligibility
In order to establish eligibility for NBCE post-licensure examinations, individuals must meet all of the following requirements:
- The applicant must hold or have held a license to practice chiropractic. (The license may have lapsed, been suspended, been revoked, etc.)
- The applicant must provide written authorization to take SPEC and/or E&B from a state or international licensing agency. This authorization may be in the form of a requirement or request.
The applicant must submit the following forms as required parts of the SPEC/E&B application process:
- "Professional Credential Verification" form, completed by the licensing agency that issued the applicant’s license
- "Authorization to Take SPEC/E&B" form, completed by the licensing agency that requires or requests that the applicant take the examination
Each of the required forms must bear an official state board seal. Administrative procedures require that the applicant must obtain the above evidence of eligibility and submit both forms as part of the SPEC/E&B application.
The NBCE does not limit the number of times an examinee may take SPEC and/or E&B; however, this policy is unrelated to individual licensing agency policies regarding the recognition of examination scores.
If a retake examination is necessary for either SPEC or E&B, the applicant must submit another completed application form indicating this is a “retake” along with the appropriate fee. The applicant must also submit another “Authorization to Take SPEC/E&B” form, completed by the licensing agency that required or requested the initial examination.
The “Professional Credential Verification” form is NOT required for an examinee to retake either the SPEC or the E&B examination.
